About Paetra Brownlee

Appellate attorney Paetra Brownlee is a Florida native who attended high school at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park Florida and college at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia, where she played Varsity Volleyball. After graduating from Emory with a degree in International Studies and a minor in French Studies, Paetra went on to attend law school with a concentration in International Law at Florida State University College of Law, where she received her certification with honors.

Extensive Appellate Law Experience

After law school, Paetra dedicated 100% of her practice to appellate litigation. She has extensive experience in criminal and civil appellate law at both the state and federal levels. 

Paetra has represented clients in the district courts of appeal across Florida and in the Florida Supreme Court. She has also performed oral argument at the First, Second and Fifth District Courts of Appeal, and at the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. 

A substantial amount of Paetra’s practice is also dedicated to extraordinary writs and state and federal post-conviction matters.       

Honors and Awards

In 2012, Paetra was appointed to the Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) for the 9th Judicial Circuit by Governor Rick Scott. In 2015, her fellow commissioners selected Paetra to serve as the Chair of the JNC.

In 2017, Governor Scott appointed Paetra to the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Fifth District Court of Appeal. She continues to serve on that Commission today. 

Paetra was recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Appellate Law in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
